New Releases 6/6/2022

Earlier in July Lil Ugly Mane released a new single ‘low tide at the dryin’ out facility‘, most likely not leading up to an album. Ugly Mane’s latest album was a lo-fi singer songwriter depressive episode that was totally refreshing from anything he had done before. This new single follows in that vein in telling the story of a narrator who consumes enough alcohol to pass out, gets hospitalized, and wishes to still be with his partner through recovery. All of this over an acoustic guitar being played, it’s a simple and straight forward song with easy replayability. Ugly Mane sounds strung out and tired on the delivery, matching the energy of the lyrics.

Boris has been coming through in the recent year swinging. They are always posting pictures of them in the studio and also preparing for a tour. Having had a bit of a quiet period they started releasing new music exponentially over 2020. This new single is leading up to their album ‘Heavy Rocks‘ which should be interesting. Their sound is still very grounded in their sludge and doom metal roots, but it’s become very polished. The vocals here are killer though and sound so good on top of the metal guitars.

It’s been a couple of years since The Koreatown Oddity’s first mainstream success album and now he’s returning with another project. The single ‘Misophonia Love‘ was the lead up to his most recent project, and in all honesty it was weak. For what he’s done in the past, his bars here aren’t nearly as witty and lacking. The production reminds me of elevator music and is extremely bland, with a bit more work and effort it could’ve been so much more enjoyable. As well as the delivery, the lyrics seem very strung together on the spot almost like improvisation. It all creates a very weak and mediocre song.
